Amethyst Welt Maissau is a unique visitor attraction in the district of Hollabrunn, with its own park and gardens centred on the world of gemstones. It is also home to the world’s largest open amethyst seam. The 40-metre-long dazzling purple band of amethyst never fails to work its magic on visitors of all ages. Hour-long tours cast the history of this precious stone in a fascinating light. Amethyst Welt Maissau also provides a wider insight into the mysterious world of minerals through its collections of gemstones from all over the world. New temporary exhibitions devoted to a different natural phenomenon each year are another highlight. There is also no end of fun to be had digging for gemstones in the park’s grounds. Kitted out with prospecting gear, visitors can set off in search of their own treasure and learn the basics of the gemstone miner’s craft. The Amethyst Welt Maissau experience also includes an animal trail in the forest, an adventure playground and an amethyst park.
