Erlaufschlucht Purgstall

Doświadczenie przyrody, Stawy, jeziora i źródła

An essential element shaping the landscapes in and around Purgstall is the Erlauf gorge. Over the course of millennia, the river dug up to 10 metres deep into the gravel (conglomerate) that has accumulated since the last ice age (Würm).

The Erlauf gorge is located in the Natura 2000 area and was declared a natural monument in 1972 due to its unique topographical features and its wild, yet romantic water spots. Two observation decks protrude beyond one third of the Erlauf river inviting you to experience the elemental force of water and take a break to relax and take pictures.
